Do we pay too much in taxes? The answer depends on what you expect to get in return for your taxes.
Well I expect my rubbish to be collected every week in an efficent and orderly way. I expect the street lights and maintenance of buildings and schools to be run properly with all the necessary equipment in place and hospitals to be run in an efficent and caring attitude and I expect that if I am ill I will get sick pay. And above all I expect civil servants to do the work that the tax payer expects them to do and to do it properly. So if all the things I have mentioned are done then, no, I don't think I am paying too much tax! But if I have to wait for weeks for medical treatment and the refuse collectors are missing me out and my local school is lacking in equipment then, yes, I am paying too much tax!
