Autumn is nearly upon us, the season of "mists and fruitfulness" most people groan at the thought of dark afternoons and chilly days and mourn the passing of summer. But i embrace this new season and enjoy all that it has to offer, what!? you may cry could damp dark days offer us that is any good. well my philosophy on this season is this----Think of it as the time Mother Nature puts her delicate flowers and fauna and some animals to bed, so they can sleep through the harsh weather and then wake refreshed and revived and renewed in the spring. So we too can take advantage of the colder, darker days to slow down our pace of life,we've done the outdoor pursuits and late nights of the summer, now we can rejuvenate ourselves. Think of all the lovely warm clothes that are in the shops for autumn sumptious fabrics and so fashionable, the pleasure of wrapping ourselves in layers of warm wool against the cold winds. We can create wonderful cosy homes with lamps and cushions and throws in warm colours and luxurious fabrics,we can't hibernate like some animals but we can rest more without feeling guilty, there is always pressure to be out and about in the summer, you so much as say don't feel like going out when it's 80 degrees outside and you have {what seems like it} hordes of people shouting "you can't stay in on a lovely hot day!" But in autumn you can and on a dark cold evening you can close the curtains, put the heating on and curl up with a good book or magazine or whatever your indoor hobby is and just relax and rejuvenate until the spring. Enjoy the mists and fruitfulness! Gillian Appleyard
